Description

This Capital Metro Automatic Passenger Counter (APC) Ridership data set is unprocessed, pure, raw, flaws and all straight from our Automatic Vehicle Location (AVL) system. Capital Metro, in partnership with a third-party vendor, applies a process that reviews the data to determine the validity and flags various elements to ensure final reported data has any bad elements excluded. Utilizing this data without applying your own methods to remove errors WILL NOT produce results corresponding to the published Ridership Reports. https://www.capmetro.org/facts/#!
Field Descriptions:
apc_date_time
'apc_date_time' is a date field describing the date on which the
vehicle data was collected. The date comes from the System Date in
the Data Logging files.
day_type_vs
'day_type_vs' is an identification number for both the day of the
week and the schedule number for that day for vehicle schedules. It
matches the id field in the day_type_vs table.
vehicle_id
'vehicle_id' is a numeric key which identifies the vehicle that was
picking up and dropping off passengers. The valid range is 1 to
65,535. This is a soft key to the 'vehicle' table.
route_id
'route_id' is a foreign key field to the route table. Valid “route_id” are
numbers between 1 and 65,535. Combined with the 'block_id' field, it
is the primary key of the 'block' table. This is a static field defined
upon record creation.
block_id
'block_id' is the block identification number assigned that uniquely
defines a particular route/block combination. A block usually
identifies a unique schedule from other blocks upon a common
primary route. Valid values for the “block_id” are between 1 and
999,999. Combined with the 'route_id' field, it is the primary key of
the 'block' table.
current_route_id
The 'current_route_id' is the trip route for a specified entry.
direction_code_id
'direction_code_id' is a primary key field that identifies the route
direction associated with the route path. Combined with the
'route_id' and 'variation' fields, it defines a unique path for route
directions. It is obtained by consulting the apattern_id reported by
the vehicle against the apattern table. It is also a software foreign
key to the 'direction_codes' table.
variation
'variation' is a primary key field that differentiates a route path from
others on the same route and direction. Combined with the 'route_id'
and 'direction_code_id' fields, it defines a unique path for route
directions. It is obtained by consulting the apattern_id reported by
the vehicle against the apattern table.
start_trip_time
'start_trip_time' is a timestamp that equals the scheduled time
associated to the first timepoint of the trip. The date portion of the
timestamp is not used.
actual_sequence
'actual_sequence' is the numeric ordering of door
events/logons/trips collected in the vehicle data logging files. This is
the actual sequence, not the scheduled sequence of bus stops as in
the 'bus_stop_pattern' table.
bs_id
'bs_id' is the bus stop identification number assigned to a particular
geographical bus stop within a service region. It may be matched
against bs_id field in the bus_stop_data table, along with other
items, to acquire detailed information about a stop.
import_error
'import_error' is a software foreign key to the 'apc_error_types' table.
The 'apc_error_types' table describes the types of errors, if any,
detected in correlating this door event.
garage_id
'garage_id' is the division assigned to this route/block.
transit_date_time
'transit_date_time' is the day of the month associated to the
schedule being used on the vehicle. For a given date/time, the
transit day would be the same day or the day before. The transit day
will be the day before in the early morning time periods.
run_id
'run_id' is the run number that the target is logged onto. If the vehicle
is logged off, this will be zero.
operator_id
'operator_id' is the driver logged on when the APC data was
collected. If the vehicle is logged off this will be zero.
open_date_time
'open_date_time' is the date/time when the door was opened. If
more than one door opened at a location, then this is the earliest
door opening.
close_date_time
'close_date_time' is the date/time when the door was closed. If more
than one door closed at a location, then this is the latest door
closing.
time_id
'time_id' is an identifier for a specific time period during the day. A
numeric identifier for time periods such as AM Peak, MidDay, PM
Peak, etc.. Current project values are given in the time_period table.
dwell_time
'dwell_time' is the number of seconds between the earliest open
door and latest close door at a given location.
ons
'ons' is the load balanced number of passengers that boarded
through all doors at this location if the balance_load flag is enabled
in the apattern table. If the balance_load flag is not enabled, then
the ons equals the raw_on.
offs
'offs' is the load balanced number of passengers that alighted
through all doors at this location if the balance_load flag is enabled
in the apattern table. If the balance_load flag is not enabled, then
the offs equals the raw_off.
max_load
'max_load' is the load balanced current number of passengers that
are on the vehicle (onboard count) after being adjusted by the
number of passengers that boarded or alighted at this location if the
balance_load flag is enabled in the apattern table. Otherwise, the
max_load equals the raw_max_load.
rev_distance
'rev_dist' is the number of miles or kilometers (based on value of
rep_odometer_units) on a revenue trip that will be traveled by the
'max_load' number of passengers after this location to the next
location. Either this field or ‘non_revenue_dist’ will be zero.
non_rev_distance
'non_rev_distance' is the number of miles or kilometers (based on
value of rep_odometer_units) on a non_revenue trip that will be
traveled by the 'max_load' number of passengers after this location
to the next location. Either this field or 'rev_distance' will be zero.
rev_seconds
'rev_seconds' is the number of seconds on a revenue trip that it took
to travel to the next location with the 'max_load' number of
passengers. Either this field or 'non_rev_seconds' will be zero.
non_rev_seconds
'non_rev_seconds' is the number of seconds on a non_revenue trip
that it took to travel to the next location with the 'max_load' number
of passengers. Either this field or 'rev_seconds' will be zero.
num_sat
'num_sat' indicates the number of satellites currently being used.
position_source
'position_source' is used to indicate where the vehicle positioning is
coming from. The values are 0=Error; 1-GPS; 2-INS device;
3=LORAN; 4=GLONASS; 5=Odometer; 6=Dead Reckoning; 7=RSA;
8=Data Not Available.
quality_indicator
'quality_indicator' is used only if the position_source field is equal to
'GPS' or 'RSA' and is used to determine the margin of error for the
GPS signal. The values are 0=GPS device has never had a valid fix;
1=Invalid data; 2=No fix; 3=2D fix (altitude not available); 4=3D fix
(latitude, longitude, altitude); 5=2D fix (differentially corrected); 6=3D
fix (differentially corrected).
raw_on
'raw_on' is the number of passengers that boarded through all doors
at this location. It is limited by the 'max_ons' field of the
'system_parameters' table.
raw_off
'raw_off' is the number of passengers that alighted through all doors
at this location. It is limited by the 'max_offs' field of the
'system_parameters' table.
raw_max_load
'raw_max_load' is the current number of passengers that are on the
vehicle after being adjusted by the number of passengers that
boarded or alighted at this location.
booking_num
'booking_num' is a number field that uniquely identifies an imported
schedule. This is reported by the vehicle as part of the correlation
process, and can be examined in the booking table to get the
booking id and booking start date.
ext_trip_id
'ext_trip_id' is a customer trip identifier. It is defined during the
schedule import process.
headsign_route
'headsign_route' is an identifier that defines the alternate route id in
a trip. If the alternate route id is not used, then the headsign_route
equals the current route id.
sched_time
'sched_time' is the schedule arrival time at the timepoint if the
current bus stop record is also a timepoint.
tp_id
'tp_id' is the timepoint identification number assigned to a particular
geographical timepoint within a service region. If the bus stop is also
a timepoint, then the tp_id is assigned. Otherwise, it is '0'. It is
defined during the schedule import process.
seg_arr_time
'seg_arr_time' is the scheduled arrival time at the beginning of a
segment.
seg_dep_time
'seg_dep_time' is the scheduled departure time at the end of a
segment.
booking_id
'booking_id' is a short text description for the imported booking (i.e.
SPR098). The booking_num is reported by the vehicle as part of the
correlation process, and can be examined in the booking table to get
the booking id and booking start date.
booking_start_date
'booking_start_date' is a timestamp equaling the date the booking
and its associated schedules become active. The booking_num is
reported by the vehicle as part of the correlation process and can be
examined in the booking table to get the booking id and booking
start date.
act_trip_start_time
'act_trip_start_time' is a timestamp that is the actual trip start time.
import_trip_error
'import_trip_error' identifies the trip-level error, if any, associated
with the current record.
veh_lat
'veh_lat' is the latitude reported by the vehicle. It defaults to zero.
veh_long
'veh_long' is the longitude reported by the vehicle. It defaults to
zero.
insert_date_time
'insert_date_time' is the date and time of when the whole trip record
is ready for insert into the database. The same timestamp is used
for each trip.
